I'm just wondering if anyone is planning to dress up on Pretend to be a Time Traveller Day this year.

A) To all who celebrates, HAPPY EID AL-ADHA! Or as we call it here, Idul Adha. I missed out both the prayer and the day-before-fasting (damn you, monthly period) but my neighborhood got pretty busy! It was really crowded on the neighborhood mosque, where the main festivities (for me, at least) were held. My family got two goats for Qurban this year, Alhamdulillah. I hope they bring happiness to anyone who received them.
For anyone who conducts Hajj this year with/without their families, I wish you all safety and Allah's blessing. MECCA, WAIT FOR ME NEXT YEAR.
B) And also, HAPPY THANKSGIVING! (Again, to all who celebrates). I don't celebrate it myself, but I've been reading all kinds of stories from my flist - it must be an eventful day. Hope you all had fun! (Well, for those who don't there is always next month).
C) All these holidays are making me excited. Hee.

ONTD posted an interview I did for Fandomania. Amusing comments. A lesbian thinks I'm hot. Sorry, Peter Vadala.

Job Closure Clarification
I never in a million years thought anyone would think that my post about being out of a day job meant my personal jewelry business, PhoenixFire Designs was closed. But I apparently scared a customer tonight when I presume she found this blog and mistook the day job for my personal jewelry business. I assure everyone that is NOT the case. The place I worked for as my day job was a therapeutic massage studio. I was an Administrative Assistant for them since August 2008. It was a small, one-location business owned by a family and unfortunately, due to economic reasons, they were forced to close their doors as of Wednesday, November 25th. That is the job I no longer have.
My jewelry business has been privately run by me and me alone since 2001 and is DEFINITELY still on-going. In fact, I'm hoping to drum up sales and really push my personal productivity since it's my only source of income at the moment with the loss of my day job. With almost no overhead and no physical retail location to support, PhoenixFire Designs probably won't ever go anywhere. And if on the unlikely chance that I decided I no longer wanted to create jewelry, I would simply take down the website.
I was at two families - both mine and Love's - all day Thursday for Thanksgiving. I received a few orders today and did not get a chance to reply or confirm the receipt of the orders since I wasn't home. I've already replied to the customer who was concerned about my day job's closure but I wanted to further ensure no one thought PhoenixFire Designs was out of business. It's in full swing and I am GLAD to take any and all orders at this time.
I apologize if anyone was confused in anyway and I want to reassure everyone that PhoenixFire Designs is up, running and I am fulfilling orders and in fact will be notifying several people their orders are shipping tomorrow.
Thank you for your continued support.

First off I want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! This last year has been a roller coaster. From the album computer crash to the REALLY busy show schedule its been interesting every step of the way. This year we've traveled as far as:
Whitby England

to Atlanta, GA

to Dallas, TX

to Hollywood, CA

to Seattle, WA

and everywhere in between. Having you guys there makes it all worth it. :)
I know its been about a month since the last show, but I did want to say that the Seattle Steam Con show was a great end to our 2009 show lineup.
As for the album, now that it is all said and done I know that you are going to enjoy it. We've added a bunch of new instruments and Jody's voice is extraordinary.
So in conclusion, I just wanted to say thanks to all of our fans and hope to see you on the road next year, starting with the Edison on NYE!
Adventure is in the wind, lets see where the fates take us.
Btw thanks to Nakedlens.org, 3Quartermoon, Smithington, Leathaltalon, Gabrielle D'Artifax, Davefish, and Gspeezy for posting the photos on the net.

Come, ye thankful people, come! Raise the song of harvest home! Bless the cup, bless the wine! Toast the sheaf, toast the vine!
May your day be filled with family, friends, memories, and peace. It's not a day of gorging, but of feasting. Remember those who have gone before us, and those yet to come.
Be safe all...
And remember, tomorrow is the day to break out Wintertide for the official start of the Christmas/Winter Solstice holiday!

I feel like I should post something. I haven't written about my life in a long time and maybe I need that release to help alleviate how tense and gray I've been feeling. But I don't know what to say about what's been going on. I haven't had a lot going on, really. Amy and I have been living together a few months and that's pretty much the only major development I have to report. Granted, that was a BIG development. But beyond that decision (which I am still very happy I made) nothing is going on.
Thanksgiving is tomorrow and Amy and I have dinner at both my parents' and hers. Saturday we are having a bunch of people over and having our own dinner. Amy's doing well in school and I'm going back next fall. I have friends though I don't see them as much anymore.
Nothin else really to talk about going on. This update did nothing to help sort my head out.

Though it's not quite complete yet (there's always room for improvement!), here's my steamy newspaper reporter outfit that I wore for Windycon.
( Pics and description beneath the cut )
By the way, everyone looked amazing at Windycon! I was totally blown away by all your great costumes. Next time I won't be so shy and I'll take more pictures!

It's a weird day today here at work. Reminds me of the last day of school. Remember that when you were a kid? Everything was always a little strange and off.
We were asked by a representative of the Woodland Park Zoo, here in Seattle to do a photo shoot in their Rainforest exhibit to promote a class they are doing in January. The shoot was quite fun. The resulting poster from our photo safari at Woodland Park Zoo.

I've just recently landed myself in steampunk-verse, though I have come across some steampunk elements in my BJD and lolita circles earlier. Before I start seeking and hoarding clothes and items and gutting old watches for parts XD, I would like to ask some questions. Hope you folks can help me out!
( Questions, questions... )
Much thanks in advance! If someone has already asked similar questions that have been answered, please direct me to those, too.

Hey all! I'm new to the community. I've been working on a project I figure might be of interest to some of you :)
Back in July/August I teamed up with a writer I know, and we put together an entry for Zuda.com (DC Comics' webcomic imprint)-- our comic IN MAPS & LEGENDS was accepted and it's been running in the November competition for a few weeks now!
Basically, if our webcomic comes in first place (they count votes, ratings, favorites, views & comments), we get a contract to continue the story. All that good stuff. We’ve already got our foot in the door, getting this far, but at this point it’s up to voters (and anyone you can pass it on to~) to keep us at #1. So far there has been a LOT of hand-wringing this month. (You can check out the current rankings here. It's been a tight, tense race so far.)
Here’s a quick run-down of our story:
Kait doesn't know why she gets up in the middle of the night to carve a map onto the wall of the spare room of her apartment. Before she can finish it, though, a strange man named Bartamus shows up at her place in the middle of a wintry night, claiming to be from another, dying world that desperately needs Kait’s help.
So if you like curvy girls who glare a lot, maps, and the potential for some major steampunk, take a look! (check out the airships in the background of the last page-- there'll be a lot more of that if we win!)
If you haven't voted at Zuda before, I know the site can be confusing, so I put together a quick image tutorial on how to vote. Hope that helps.
The competition only lasts for November, so please vote before the month is out! I've been posting extra art and teasers at my site, too: http://www.niki-smith.com/
Thank you in advance! Spread the word! Let's win this!
Zuda's currently serializing another steampunk title too, called SIDEWISE-- check that out while you're there.

Hi All,
I'm a long time lurker who finally up and joined. I'd like to share my (incredibly cheap and quick) iPod case modification. I tried to go for the handmade look by crinkling the foil as I pressed it down. I think that may have been a mistake. Once the glues dry I'll put it all together and post a followup pic if people are interested. Any comments are welcome!

Materials:
Acrylic iPod Case $15
Brass Foil Tape $5
Scraps of Faux-Leather FREE
Scrap Plastic Gears (spray painted bronze) FREE
Random old car headlight FREE
Gear Medallion from Michaels $3

been a while since I posted anything steampunk inspired so I thought I would post a few of my new pieces. The first four are Steampunk bugs that I made out of paperclay. On the back I added a pin back so that they can be worn on a shirt or jacket but I also left the antenna with loops at the end so that jump rings could be added to the end and they could be worn as pendants. Each one is made by pressing watch parts into the clay then latter painting them, some parts of the bugs are sealed in a glossy finish and some are in a matte finish.

I think that these are pretty nice looking for a utility pouch for your belt, and the design, along with the old-style latches lands this firmly within the steamy category. The pouch is actually for a pack of smokes and a cellphone, but I could see these being use for all sorts of things, including my blackberry (which is a pain in the ass to carry around in costume).

Hi all,
I am planning on coming down from Seattle for the show and was wondering if any locals could suggest a good place to stay and maybe something to do the next day for fun. I am unfamilar with Portland and figured a locals perspective was better than mapquests :-) Thanks all in advance.

Hi Everyone,
I am looking for an affordable (under $200) Steampunk styled suitjacket for my boyfriend that I can get delivered to me (in Detroit) by X-Mas. He is really interested in the US "Wild West" side of the style, and is a tall and of larger build. I would need a generous 1X or a 2X. Can you give me suggestions of reputable, good quality ateliers that I should check out? I don't have time to order something and have it not work out! Thanks in advance!
